6. In May, three friends and I walked a half marathon in just over four hours. Note I didn’t say run, but before my friend Sarah challenged me to do it back in January, I don’t think I would have ever thought 13.1 miles was an achievable goal for me, even walking.
I raised approximately $900 for Haiti H2O, the nonprofit that Sarah and her husband, Jeff, founded a few years ago to reach out to people in rural Haiti, and I think the reason I was able to raise that much money was because people were so shocked to see my name and the word “marathon” in the same sentence. I have a reputation of being somewhat…well…exercise averse. 🙂
Once the temperature drops back below 90 degrees F and the humidity level follows suit, I intend to get back into the walking habit. For real.
*The clock at the finish line indicates three hours, five minutes and 26 seconds. That’s the runners’ time. Walkers started an hour earlier.
**And technically, it would be appropriate to say that I walked 15 miles or so that day, when you count the stroll from the parking lot to the start line, and the limp from the finish line back to the parking lot.
